Introduction:

This is Sandefjord. With the motto, “Think Big, Think Sandefjord” (Tenk stort, Tenk Sandefjord), we want to introduce you to our city.

Sandefjord is a part of the county of Vestfold and Telemark, and is one of about 20 municipalities. 1Most information can be found on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandefjord

Sandefjord has a population of about 64000 people which makes it the 11th biggest city in Norway.

History:

The city is known for its rich Viking history and the prosperous whaling industry, which made Sandefjord the richest city in Norway at the time.

Sandefjord has numerous nicknames, including the Viking, Whaling “capital” of Norway or as the undisputed summer city of Norway.

It has also been dubbed the “Bathing City” (Badebyen), due to its many beaches and former resort spas. It is still considered a resort town, due to high numbers of visitors during summer months.

Travel:

Sandefjord has become a transportation hub. It is the home of Torp International Airport, one of Norway’s largest airports.

The train station has connections throughout the county. Trains also make it easy to travel to the capital, Oslo in the east, and all the way to the west coast of Norway.

Daily ferry connections to Sweden are provided by Fjord Line and Color Line from the city harbor.

European Route E18, one of Norway’s busiest roads, traverses the municipality.

Schools:

Skagerak International School is also located in town and offers English-speaking kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school. Other private schools include a Lutheran school, and an Adventist school.

Public schooling is most common. Sandefjord High School (SVGS) has about 2,000 students and is Norway’s largest high school. It is a result of the merge between Sandefjord’s four former high schools.

Home-schooling is rare.

Churchs:

A majority of churches are Lutheran. The Norwegian Lutheran church has recently been seperated from the state.

There are also a few charismatic, Pentecostal congregations, which would be the next largest denomination.

You could also find congregations for catholics, Methodists, the Salvation Army, and Adventists.

Conclusion:

So this is Sandefjord

Pray for us, that Sandefjord Evangelical Church would be a light to this city by being a beacon of faithfulness to God’s Word and the gospel.
